Late 1700s Sepia Mourning Ring, 18K Gold, $1095
These little miniatures composed of sepia ink and bits of hair on ivory were popular for mourning jewelry in the mid to late 18th century. The scenes are often classically-inspired, with women in Roman dress and an almost mythological feeling. The anchor in this one suggests it was to mourn a loved one lost at sea.
